The Non Talkers are a Pop-Folk duo from Viana do Castelo, Portugal, composed of the Luso-Belgian couple Marco and Evita Brantner, whose heartfelt songwriting and warm stage presence have drawn listeners from across Europe and beyond. Their music is rooted in honesty, they sing about real life, its beauty and its struggles, creating songs that feel like conversations between close friends.
The story of Non Talkers began in 2011 on the Greek island of Rhodes, where Marco, then part of an alternative rock band, met Evita, a children’s animator working at a local resort. He was Portuguese, she was Belgian, and English became their common language. It wasn’t until 2013, however, that Marco accidentally discovered Evita’s voice as she hummed along to a song on the radio. Surprised by her range and emotional tone, he invited her to contribute backing vocals on his solo project. But it didn’t stop there — what began as a collaboration turned into a shared dream. Soon they were writing songs together, laying the foundation for a life and career in music side by side.
Their musical identity evolved naturally: Marco’s warm baritone, multi-instrumental talent, and melodic sensibility found perfect balance with Evita’s expressive mezzo-soprano and lyrical intuition. Their songs range from autobiographical moments like their first meeting (Fire Burning In My Veins), to deeply emotional stories such as the premature birth of their daughter Noa or navigating a loved one’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. Tracks like We’ll Be Fine also reflect their resilience and optimism, especially during difficult times like the global pandemic.
While Marco tends to compose the initial melodies, often on guitar, and builds the musical arrangement, Evita usually shapes the lyrics and refines the emotional arc of the songs. Once their demo is ready, they collaborate with their trusted team of live musicians and engineers to bring the song to life, always striving for a rich, organic sound rarely found in modern productions.
Live, Non Talkers are almost always joined by a full band, and have worked with top-tier professionals including elite drummer Hugo Danin and sound engineers João Bessa and Paulo Baixinho. Their on-stage chemistry and emotional storytelling have earned them a loyal following throughout Portugal, from Lisbon and Porto to Braga, Coimbra, and Guimarães, and beyond.
Their debut EP, Pendulum of Time, earned the Honorary Award for Best Indie Band (2020) and Artist of the Year (2021) from Blue Rhymez Entertainment, along with critical acclaim and international attention. That same year, they were selected as one of the six winners of the Rootstock 2020 Awards, receiving a $6,000 prize, which they reinvested entirely into their music and visuals.
In 2022, they released their first full-length album, Roots, a deeply personal collection of 14 songs blending summery pop sounds and introspective ballads. “We want these songs to capture the hearts and imagination of our fans,” they shared. The album reflects their dual nature, both polished and raw, pop yet indie, timeless yet contemporary.
Over the past few years, Non Talkers have expanded their audience by performing in Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Spain, and across Portugal. Their authenticity and artistry have found resonance with fans from different cultures, with Blue Rhymez Entertainment writing: “If Fleet Foxes were ever on your playlist, you owe the Non Talkers a minimum of 3 minutes of your life. They’re that good!”
In 2025, the duo embarked on a bold new chapter with their Weight of Doubt tour, beginning in Portugal, where every show sold out. Instead of releasing a traditional album all at once, Marco and Evita decided to unveil their new songs gradually during the tour, using each performance to test the emotional response of their audience before finalizing studio versions. This approach not only reinforces their organic process, but also reflects their deep connection with listeners — every song is a dialogue, every concert a shared experience.
Non Talkers aren’t just a band. They are a story still unfolding, of love, of growth, of music that dares to feel.
