Rox Alive – Non Talkers Interview

1. Let’s start at the beginning then. When did the band form?
The Non Talkers officially formed in 2019, evolving from our previous project «Brantner.» Our musical partnership began in 2011 when Evita joined my solo project, which later developed into a band.

2. Who’s in the band?

The core of the Non Talkers is us, Marco and Evita Brantner. I, Marco, am the main songwriter, a lead singer, and play the acoustic guitar. Evita focuses solely on vocals. Our performances often include additional musicians: a violinist, a piano player, a bass player, a cello player, an electric guitar player, and a drummer, enriching our sound.

3. Were any of you in bands before?
Before Non Talkers, I, Marco, was part of a band named Spleen Poetry and also pursued a solo project under my name. Evita’s formal entry into the music scene began with our collaboration, marking the start of our joint musical journey.

4. How would YOU describe your sound?

Our sound is a unique blend of pop and folk with a touch of indie. It’s characterized by emotive storytelling and melodic harmonies, deeply influenced by our personal experiences and emotions. We strive to create music that resonates with listeners on a personal level, blending acoustic elements with rich, lyrical depth. This combination of styles results in a sound that is both authentic and relatable, reflecting the nuances of our journey as both musicians and individuals.

5. What are your musical influences?
Our musical influences are quite diverse, ranging from classic rock and folk legends to contemporary indie and pop artists. Growing up, we were inspired by icons like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin, Queen, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, and Bryan Adams, as well as U2. These classic influences laid the foundation for our music. In recent times, we’ve also drawn inspiration from modern artists such as The Lumineers, Kodaline, Mumford and Sons, Lewis Capaldi, The Banners, and Jack Savoretti. These varying influences shape our sound, adding depth and diversity to our music.

6. What have been up to lately? any new stuff to delight our ears?

Lately, we’ve been focusing on creating new music and exploring different dimensions of our sound. We’re excited about experimenting with fresh ideas and melodies that continue to reflect our unique blend of pop and folk influences. While we can’t reveal too much just yet, fans can certainly expect new material that will offer both the familiar emotional depth of the Non Talkers and some new, delightful surprises for their ears. Stay tuned for updates and releases that we hope will resonate deeply with our audience.

7. How about live dates? What have you been doing and what ya got planned for 2024?

In terms of live performances, we’ve been actively planning and preparing for our shows in 2024. We’re excited to bring our music to different venues and connect with our audience in a live setting. Our plans include a mix of concerts in various locations, offering both intimate gigs and larger shows. We’re looking forward to sharing not only our well-loved songs but also introducing some of our new material to our fans. Keep an eye on our social media and website for announcements and dates for our 2024 live performances!

8. Name something about yourselves that fans won’t know

An interesting aspect about us, which our fans might not know, is our linguistic abilities. I, Marco, am fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and German, in addition to English. Evita speaks Dutch and Portuguese. This multilingualism not only reflects our diverse backgrounds but also influences our music, giving us a broader perspective and allowing us to connect with a wider audience.

9. What’s the most embarrassing moment you’ve had?

One of our most embarrassing moments occurred during a live interview with a Portuguese TV program. We were connected via video call, and to our surprise, they started asking questions intended for a completely different artist. It was awkward to navigate this mix-up live on air, especially having to correct them and clarify that they had the wrong artist. It was more embarrassing for the interviewer, but it definitely made for an unforgettable and somewhat humorous experience for us

10. Do you have any superstitions? Any things you do before a show?

We don’t really have any superstitions or specific rituals that we follow before a show. Our approach is pretty straightforward and focused on preparing mentally and ensuring everything is set for the performance. We believe in staying relaxed and centered, ready to share our music with the audience.

11. Are there any musicians or bands you’d love to work with?

There are several musicians and bands we’d love to have the opportunity to work with. In particular, collaborating with artists who share a similar musical style and ethos to ours, such as The Lumineers, Kodaline, or Mumford and Sons, would be fantastic. These artists’ approach to songwriting and performance aligns well with our own.

12. Any final thoughts?

We just want to say thank you for this opportunity to share a bit about ourselves and our music. We’re excited about what the future holds for the Non Talkers and we look forward to continuing to connect with our fans and bring new music to the table. Stay tuned for more from us, and we hope to see you at one of our shows in the near future!
