The Cosmic View: Interview with Non Talkers

The Cosmick View: Hello, and welcome to The Cosmick View/MBM Ten Pounder! Thanks for taking some time to chat with us!
Non Talkers: Hello, and thank you for having us

CV: Describe your definition of the band’s sound and style and how does that definition uniquely describe the music?
Non Talkers: Our band, the Non Talkers, has a sound and style that we define as a heartfelt blend of pop and folk, with a touch of indie flair. This unique blend allows us to tell our stories and express emotions through music in a way that’s both intimate and universally relatable. Our style is characterized by a fusion of emotive lyrics, evocative melodies, and a harmonious blend of our vocals, creating a sound that’s authentically ours and resonates deeply with our listeners.

CV: Today, everyone talks about artist and audience connection. Is such a level of connection actually achievable for an artist and if so, how have you made the connection to your fans?
Non Talkers: Absolutely, a genuine connection between an artist and their audience is achievable. For us, this connection is fostered through the honesty and emotion we pour into our music. We share our personal stories and feelings in our songs, which many listeners find relatable. Additionally, we engage with our fans through social media and live performances, creating a two-way interaction. This open and sincere approach has helped us build a strong, meaningful relationship with our fans, making them feel like a part of our musical journey.

CV: Is fan interaction an important part of the band’s inner culture?
Non Talkers: Yes, fan interaction is a crucial part of our band’s culture. We believe that the relationship with our fans goes beyond just performing music. It’s about building a community and sharing experiences. We actively engage with our audience through social media, live shows, and meet-and-greets. This direct interaction not only strengthens our bond with our fans but also inspires and influences our music. It’s a reciprocal relationship where we grow and evolve together with our fanbase.

CV: Can a band truly interact with its fans and still maintain a level of personal privacy without crossing the line and giving up their “personal space” in your opinion?
Non Talkers: Absolutely, as a humble indie band, our interaction with fans is very natural and grounded. We’re not overly famous, so our connection with fans is personal and authentic. Our fans are incredibly respectful, which allows us to maintain our personal privacy while still engaging meaningfully with them. This respectful relationship makes it easier to balance personal space with fan interaction. We cherish this natural, respectful interaction as it fosters a genuine and supportive community around our music.

CV: Is music, and its value, viewed differently around the world in your opinion?  If so, what do you see as the biggest difference in such multiple views among various cultures?
Non Talkers: While we haven’t traveled extensively enough to have a global perspective on music, from the few countries we’ve visited, we’ve observed that music is indeed viewed and valued differently around the world. These variations seem to stem from cultural contexts and the role music plays in each society. In some places, music is deeply connected to traditions and social practices, while in others; it’s more focused on entertainment or personal expression. This diversity enriches our understanding of music and its various interpretations across cultures.

CV: Do you feel that a band that has an international appeal, will tend to connect more so to American audiences? Would they be more enticed or intrigued to see the band over indigenous acts because of the foreign flavor?
Non Talkers: I believe the allure of the “foreign flavor” is a universal phenomenon, not just limited to American audiences. People naturally gravitate towards things that are new and different, so any international band can pique interest in various countries, including the United States. This curiosity towards what’s novel and unique is part of human nature, and it can often give international acts an edge in capturing the attention of audiences globally.

CV: Has modern-day digital technology made everyone an artist on some level in your opinion? Have the actual lines of what really is an artist been blurred?

Non Talkers: Being an artist is inherently about a deep desire to communicate and express oneself, and modern digital technology has certainly made this more accessible. It allows people to create music more easily, bypassing some of the traditional barriers like mastering an instrument through extensive practice. This democratization of music creation doesn’t blur the lines of what being an artist is; rather, it opens up more avenues for artistic expression. The core of artistry remains in creating something that resonates with and is enjoyed by the audience.

CV: How would you describe the difference between an artist who follows trends and one who sets them?
Non Talkers: An artist who sets trends is typically one who remains true to themselves, focusing on genuine creation and expression. When this authenticity resonates with and impacts people, it can lead to the formation of new trends. Conversely, artists who primarily follow trends to stay relevant often don’t lead the way in innovation. They may adapt to current styles, but the trailblazers are usually those who are deeply committed to their unique artistic vision.

CV: What can fans expect to see coming next from you?
Non Talkers: Fans can look forward to new music and continued explorations in our unique style. We’re always working on evolving our sound and experimenting with different musical elements. Additionally, there may be more live performances and tours, where we hope to connect with our audience in different regions. Our focus remains on creating music that resonates deeply and sharing it with our fans around the world.

CV: Thanks again for taking some time and talking. It is greatly appreciated.
Non Talkers: Thank you so much for having us! It’s been a pleasure talking with you and sharing our story and plans. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with your readers and our fans through platforms like The Cosmick View. Keep supporting music and stay tuned for more from the Non Talkers!
